Marcelo Fernandes is a Brazilian paleontologist specialising in paleoichnology from the Botucatu Formation and Bauru Basin of Brazil. He works in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology for the Universidade Federal de São Carlos.
He obtained his Bachelors degree in 1994, and Masters in 1999 from the Universidade Federal de São Carlos, and earned his PhD from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro in 2005.
Marcelo has discovered the fossilized tracks of a number of prehistoric species, and also helped describe at least two new dinosaurs.
