The Huincul Formation is a Late Cretaceous rock formation located in the Northwest of Río Negro.
It is largely exposed and accessible through the a farm owned by the Violante family.
A number of fossil specimens have been found in the Huincul Formation, including Argentinosaurus, regarded as the largest dinosaur.
It likely gets its name from the nearby town of Plaza Huincul, which translates to "Plaza of the Hills".
