Rosario is the largest city in the Argentinian province of Santa Fe, located along the ParanĂ¡ River, a major shipping route for the country.
Rosario was believed to be founded in 1793 by local settlers. It was upgraded to a village in 1823, and was officially christened a city in 1852.
Rosario is the Spanish word for "rosary", a necklace with many beads and a cross used in Catholic prayers.
