Trelew is a city located just North of the centre of the coast of Chubut in Argentina.
The city was founded in 1886 as the start of a railway line to another city in Northern Chubut called Puerto Madryn.
Trelew is the home of the Paleontological Museum Egidio Feruglio (MEF), an important museum for paleontology not only in Chubut, but Patagonia, and all of Argentina.
Trelew was named for one of the leaders of the first Welsh settlement in Argentina. "Tre" means "town" in Welsh, and "lew" comes from Lewis Jones, one of the leaders of the Welsh settlers who was also a spokesperson to the Argentinian government in the 1860s.
